National Prevention Week is a week long event held May 7-13th, 2023 through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration(SAMSHA) in observance of prevention from various substances. To get more information, visit

This year, SAMHSA is making the theme A Celebration of Possibility a permanent tagline. This is something everyone working or advocating for prevention can strive for on a daily basis, not just for this week!

What Are we Doing
The Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition is involved by working with local schools and the local community to provide prevention methods through out Boone County.
​
The BCDPC has a scholarship available for seniors in Boone County. visit our scholarship page for more information on how to apply and submit for a change to receive $500.

We will be present at Build- A-Bike on May 10th from 4-7pm at Hamblock Ford in Belvidere. Get information and learn more about how you can work with us in the future!

Belvidere North High School will be presenting signage reminders for students to drive responsibly and make good decisions especially during prom season.

How Can you Get Involved?
Get involved in our activities! Be apart of our video contest by submitting a video about why prevention matters to you! See the section below to get more details on rules and how to submit. Also, everyday of the week of May 7-13th, wear the colors for each day!
Monday: Prescription Drug and Opioid Misuse; Purple
Tuesday: Preventing Underage Drinking and Alcohol Misuse; Blue
Wednesday: Prevention of Illicit Drug Use and Youth Marijuana Use; Red
Thursday: Preventing Youth Tobacco Use( E-Cigarettes and Vaping); Grey
Friday: Preventing Suicide; Yellow
